I’m from Chattanooga, Tn. And it was the week before I was to take my private pilot license check ride. I was having to be in Dallas for the entire week and didn’t want to go a week without flying before the check ride. So I did a Google search for flight instruction in Dallas and came across Andy’s site. I sent him an email and he got right back with me.
I took two lessons from him and learned SO MUCH! I really like the way he teaches by feel and not so much by the numbers. I had really been struggling with short field landings, but not anymore. Andy is an AWESOME instructor with a true passion for flying. I look forward to getting more help from him.

Above average, effective, independent, and fun, are only a few words to describe Andy Poulton. In today’s age of nation wide, cookie-cutter accelerated "pilot factories", it is hard to find a flight instructor that is dedicated to making you a smart and safe pilot. Not to mention one that makes learning to fly fun. Andy is determined to only turn out smart, skilled, and wise pilots into the aviation world, teaching not just to the practical test standards, but beyond. He works with me as both as an instructor and as a mentor and friend. Not all students are the same, and they vary in performance in many different areas. Andy is very aware of this, and worked diligently with me to strengthen all areas of my performance as a pilot.
Andy also has a great knowledge base in all areas of aviation. If you are taking up aviation as a hobby or going for that flying career, Andy is there to guide you successfully to meet your individual needs and goals.
Flight instruction is a costly investment, and Andy will never take money up front. Instead he uses a pay as you go method, which helps in easing any financial strain. If you are seeking quality flight instruction in the DFW area, I would highly recommend Andy."

"I met Andy Poulton some months ago, and since then I have flown with him many times in either VFR “refresher”, new airplane check out or IFR training situations. Andy is a terrific teacher, a very knowledgeable CFII and, perhaps most importantly he has a very comfortable teaching style. I highly recommend him."

I recently visited Dallas from Florida and wanted to do some personal flying while I was in town. I found the “Learn to fly Dallas” website online and before I arrived and sent an email looking for more info. Andy was more than accommodating to answer all my questions and made his schedule work around mine for a checkout when I came to town. Flying in Dallas can be a lot of fun, but the airspace can be tricky! The checkout went great and I even learned a couple of things while we were flying.
If you need to do a checkout in the Dallas area or want to brush up on your flying skills, I highly recommend Andy Poulton.

“I came to Andy because I was having trouble mastering my Commercial Maneuvers. Andy evaluated where I was and provided specific instruction on how to improve the maneuvers. He provides a very detailed and feedback-oriented approach to instruction that not only allowed me to perform the maneuver correctly, but helped me understand what was happening to the airplane and why certain control forces were necessary.
Andy is also a wealth of knowledge. I learned more about aerodynamics and systems in a couple ground sessions with him than I think I learned in all my ground school to date.
Andy is an easy going and laid back instructor who is easy to get along with. You will find yourself having more fun flying - all the while learning invaluable techniques, tips and aviation knowledge. I highly recommend you seek him out!”

I’ve trained with three different flight instructors over the past few years. There is no doubt that Andy Poulton is the overall best teacher I’ve ever had. The first time I met him, his bubbly personality became apparent: he is incredibly courteous and friendly, as well as enthusiastic. Unlike some other instructors, Andy is eager for each and every flight. His passion for aviation is obvious in the air and on the ground: his knowledge for all things aviation is astounding. His passion for teaching is equally as great. He truly is a one-of-a-kind teacher. From our first lesson to our last, he thoroughly covered everything I would ever to know in order need to pass my exams. Andy is definitely not a minimalist, so he taught me extra things to make me a safer pilot. A unique trait of Andy’s teaching style is how he deals with questions: whenever I asked a question, he wouldn’t simply answer it and continue with his lesson. Instead, he would get me to answer my own question. He would ask me other questions in order to do this. To me, this was extremely helpful because it did not allow me to simply forget the answer five minutes later. Needless to say, I passed my oral exam and check ride with flying colors due to the amount, and quality, of preparation I had.
Even though I was just Andy’s student, I feel like we are good friends. This is all because of his lively, inviting personality. With other instructors, I was just another student that they had to deal with in order to receive their paycheck; however, with Andy, we had a personal relationship, yet a sense of professionalism was still maintained. It is always easy to contact Andy, so there aren’t any communication errors about lesson times or anything like that. Also, I could contact him at anytime if I had a question about anything. Overall, Andy is a great guy who is good at sharing his passion for flying.

Two years ago, my son took an introductory flight at Addison airport and decided he wanted to fly. His goal was to get his pilots license when he turned 17.
Having enrolled in a school there, he began his lessons, flying twice a month. After accumulating about 10 hours, his instructor was no longer at the school. He was assigned a new instructor. Adding a few more hours, again an instructor change occurred.
After having close to 20 hours, he had seen 4 different instructors. The change left him with a lesser ambition to conclude his training.
Fast forward to the summer of 2009, he still had the desire to conclude his training and reach his goal of obtaining his pilots license.
I was referred to Andy Poulton who ran a smaller flight training school at Addison. From the first flight my son had with Andy, you could see the love of flying had reemerged. Over the next 3 months, Andy worked tirelessly with my son perfecting the skills in the making of a young pilot.
Keeping in contact with us throughout the training program was the greatest comfort a father and mother could have, knowing their child was up there in a plane, by himself on Solo day.
This summer, our son completed his tests and his check ride. Our greatest thanks go to Andy Poulton for taking the time to work with our only child and allow him to reach his goal. At the age of 17, our son is a Licensed Private Pilot. We highly recommend Andy as a Certified Flight Training center.

When you decide to become a pilot you are committing to a significant investment of time and money. Choosing the right flight instructor is the key to your success. After searching through the various options, national flight schools, local flight schools and independent flight instructors determined just to get flight hours; I found Andy Poulton. Andy's experience and education is impressive, however, his joy of flying is his greatest quality. As we navigated through the private and instrument courses Andy conveyed this enthusiasm to me. His patience and teaching style allows you to learn at your own pace. Whether you are looking to learn in the minimum amount of time or want to take it slow, Andy's flexibility will accommodate your needs.
As we continued my training into the instrument course Andy's level of expertise really showed. Whether learning the various approaches or flying in actual IFR conditions, Andy teaches with confidence and a wealth of knowledge that is unparalleled. For new pilots or existing pilots looking to get their instrument rating, Andy is the only choice.
In conclusion, I highly recommend Andy to anyone who is looking to receiving the highest level of training.
